Loci Technical University Eindhoven

The LOCI innovation project ran from January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2014. The project partners Zonnepanelen Parkstad, Unilin Insulation and SEAC have jointly developed the LOCI product in this project. SEAC was coordinator of the project.

In the initial phase SEAC provided a structured approach with a specification document, morphological map and documentation of the many product variations we thought of. As part of the preliminary work SEAC developed a technical-financial model that enabled us to calculate the technical features and cost benefits of the LOCI product. Because of the combination of roof renovation, roof insulation and PV system in a single product, LOCI can bring the energy index of the Dutch land-based home park down by more than 1.0, and improve the energy label with three to four steps (e.g., label E to label A ), greatly shorten the roof renovation process, and lower the overall system costs by 20%. The annual energy savings in heating and electricity of the LOCI PV insulation elements is 1500 euros per annum for an average household. An internal rate of return on the initial investment of almost 10% can be achieved. Finally, we built a demonstration roof on the SEAC SolarBEAT test site, where we investigated the product on its physical and electrical performance.

The conclusion of this study was that the waterproofing, moisture and temperature behavior all worked very well and that there was an electrical yield of 900 kWh/kWp/a. The results were published at the PVSEC 2014 Conference in Amsterdam. Learn more about this project or SEAC? Visit www.seac.cc
